Practice Changes – Please check web page daily this time of year, there changes due to meets, Tapers, and coaches being at meets. The Coaches first goal is to provide swimmers with the practice time they need.

• Blue/junior(age group) practice is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday this week and next week
• Friday July 23 - NO Sanford, All Senior not going to Senior Champs practice with Owen 5:30-7PM
• Sunday July 25 - NO practice
• Monday July 26 - NO AM, normal PM

LC Senior Championships - The team will leave Friday at 6:00am from O’Neal.

Information for the LC Senior Championships has been posted to the meets page. The team will leave Friday 6:00am from O’Neal.

Congratulations! I just wanted to say what an incredible job everyone did this summer and this year! Thank you for staying motivated and dedicated throughout this season. We are going to have a pizza/pool party and give out medals/ribbons this Thursday (July 22nd) @ O'Neal for all year round and summer league swimmers 5:30-7.

Age Group Swimmers (Blue /Green): The summer season is coming to a close with the Moore County Summer League Championship (July 19 th at the Elk Club) and JO’s and Tarheel States coming up. I would love to see 100% attendance at the Summer League Championship so you guys can get rewarded and recognized for all the hard work you put in all year. You have to remember that as part of USA swimming you are consistently competing against the best swimmers in many states on a regular basis, but the MCSL is designed to let yourself see how good you actually are in relation to other swimmers in Moore County. Stay motivated these last few weeks of swimming before our Month long break and let me see all your smiling faces at the Championship (July 19th @ Elks Club).

For the USA swimming season finisher I would love to see 100% attendance at Tarheel State coming up. Please check the website for further information (sign ups on the board). This is the last long course meet of the year and a great opportunity for everyone. For some this would be the only one. Take pride in your dedication and finish the season on a strong meet like Tarheel States. I would like to congratulate some of our other age group swimmers for qualifying for JO’s and expect a great performance and exciting times to come.

Parents please talk to Owen, before or after practice, if you have any questions regarding these final practices or swim meets coming up.

E-mail Blast Issues Update: If you use a Time Warner Cable Road Runner e-mail account you are probably not receiving our e-mail alerts. We recommend that you use another e-mail account for signing up for SSS E-mail Alerts. In many web mail accounts, you can set it up to auto-forward e-mails to other accounts, so you may want to investigate this option if you would still like to get your alerts via your Road Runner e-mail account. E-mail accounts are offered free from many popular internet companies such as Google and Yahoo as well as many others. Setting up accounts is usually very simple to do.

Check the MCSL (Moore County Swim League) site for information about the 2010 summer season. The first meet is June 22nd at O'Neal.

Open Water
Thank you to all our parent volunteers for hosting a very successful Open Water event this past weekend!! We hope that everyone enjoyed themselves at this major Sandshark fundraiser. We continue to receive compliments from coaches and parents acknowledging our gracious hospitality and concern for the swimmers!!

Also, a special thanks to our group leaders who put in the extra time to ensure that their areas of responsibility were running smoothly!!

Sponsors were also a vital component to this year's race. We will publish the final list on the website soon. All sponsors will receive letters indicating their donation to a non-profit organization.

The electronic chip timing system was amazing. Let's begin to look forward to making next year's race even bigger and better!! Let us know if you have any suggestions which may help us in the future.

I can extend the deadline until Friday! Be on the lookout next week for FRUIT and WATER requests from the HOSPITALITY committee. We are asking each family to provide a package of bottled water (for volunteers/coaches/athletes) and bags of either apples or oranges (for the athletes). WE WILL PROVIDE DETAILS SOON. Locker Rooms: One of the Age Group Boys that attended practice Tuesday night,March 16th, decided to turn 3 showers on and leave them running.  They stayed on overnight and messed up the thermostat.  This is the second incident with age group boys in the showers and it will not be tolerated. O'Neal has officially taken action that has damaged our relationship with the school and possibly the future of the Sandsharks.  If you have any information regarding this matter, you need to come talk to Coach Taylor or Owen immediately.  If you were the one who did this, please come and talk to us now, before more severe actions are taken that could be out of our control. We pride ourselves in the actions of our swimmers and their accomplishments, inside and outside of the pool; this seemingly small vandalism has repercussions for the reputation of an entire team, coaching staff, and parents.  Age group swimmers are no longer to use the showers in locker rooms.  Bathrooms only for changing and quick breaks during practice until further notice.

We regret to inform our Sandshark parents and swimmers that we have received a letter of resignation from Coach Beth Field. Although she will be departing her coaching position this Spring, she will continue to play a vital role as a Sandshark parent! The team is very grateful for Coach Beth's years of hard work and dedication with developing Sandshark programs for the younger swimmers.

We will keep you posted as the new Coach search progresses.

Attention Parents and Age Group Swimmers:

The Sandshark Coaching Staff has been approached with concerns about our swimmers and their behavior by the O'Neal School. Someone or a group of age group boys that attended Monday (Dec. 28) evening practice vandalized the boys lockeroom. They took wet paper towels and threw them on the ceiling; after drying this becomes a hardened cement-like material and is very difficult and time consuming to remove. This time they not only managed to paper the ceiling but also the thermostat which is very costly to fix, especially if it is affects the rest of the O'Neal heating system. The Sandsharks want everyone to understand we rent the pool from O'Neal and this pool is the only viable source for the Sandsharks to exist in this county (until we get our own pool of course). Even then, we want to instill more than just excellent swimming abilities into our children. We pride ourselves on the accomplishments of our swimmers in and out of the pool. Based on all other sports in the county, we send more students to college on scholarships than most of them combined. We want everyone to be proud of the team they are apart of and represent. Small instances, like the one Monday night, disgrace the team, coaches, parents and should embarrass the swimmers themselves. We understand they are children but we still hold everyone to higher standards of conduct and personal ambitions then other sports you might have been a part of. Parents if you could please talk to your swimmer (especially if they were their Monday night) and find out if they did this. Explain to them the importance of respecting themselves and other peoples' property, while being a representative of an outstanding organization with an excellent reputation. We don't want to punish anyone and will not pursue damages, but we need this to stop immediately. Please talk to Coach Taylor or Owen if you have any information regarding this matter.

2009 Swim Conference Summary

General information for the years start up August 27th 2009

• Outstanding bills: All out standing must be caught up by the end of August. Please send all payments to P.O. Box 1982 Pinehurst NC 28370
• 2009-10 Contracts: Contract will be coming out this week for retuning swimmers, please note that contract must be turned in by date designated on the contract. There will be a fine of 10% of the years annuals dues if the contract is not turned in or contact is not made with Marie Cummings 947-4876 by the contract due date. We do realize that money is always tight, if more time is needed please let Marie know your situation and we will work with you. From a team perspective, it helps to have an idea of how many returning swimmers we will have before we start tryouts. This insures we do not overbook the allotted slots for each group.
• Swim Camps: All swimmers from all MCSL teams are welcome to attend Sandshark swim camp without trying out. The $20 fee does not apply to returning Sandsharks. All MCSL summer league swimmers must pay the fee but fee will be credited to their annual dues if they join the team. Dates & times for the camp are posted on the calendar on the web site www.sandshark.org
• Please check changes for dryland training schedule for the Junior group (Tues. & Fri.)
