Derek W Young
Derek Young comes to the Sandhills Sandsharks in September from Nation's Capital Swim Club after six years of full time coaching. At NCAP, he works under Coach Jeremy Lin as the Head Coach of Bronze 1 with 11 to 14 year old athletes ranging in achievement levels from LSC championship to zone and sectional qualifiers. He also assist with NCAP's senior/national level athletes and senior prep level athletes and runs an all ages/ability level program for home schooled students. His senior/national level athletes and senior prep level athletes include 4 qualified athletes for this summer’s Olympic Trials. Prior to joining NCAP, he worked primarily with 10 and under athletes for the Arlington Aquatic Club.

Susanne Cooper grew up in the water, swimming for summer and year round teams in Lynchburg, Va, where she also lifeguarded and coached summer league teams. She swam for the College of William and Mary. She oversees the age group squads, runs the Moore County Swim League, and serves as Open Water Meet Director for NC Open Water Champs, the Carolina Cup Open Water Invitational, and the Southern Zones Open Water Age Group Champs. She is the head coach for the O'Neal Varsity Swimming. She lives in Southern Pines with her husband, Kevin, and children Will and Amy.
Aquatics Programming Instructor
Liz has been teaching water exercise classes for 35
years and is the mother of three grown boys. Liz is an American Red
Cross certified Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor,
nationally certified Physical Fitness Specialist, certified YOGA
instructor, and has an extensive exercise science and aquatics
background. Liz has both her bachelor’s and master’s
degrees from Indiana University in Therapeutic Recreation. Liz was
a triathlete for over 30 years, and continues to swim and train for
long distance open water events. Liz currently teaches and
organizes swimming classes for the Sandsharks and is a certified
personal trainer in the Southern Pines area.
